British Chamber's New Board 2020/21

Monday 14th December saw the first official board meeting following the Chamber’s AGM in November 2020, and the final board meeting of the calendar year.

New members Asit Rath, CEO of Prudential and Kyaw Kyaw Hlaing, Chairman of Smart Group were welcomed onto the board. On notification of his successful election Asit commented, ‘I would like to thank all members of British Chamber for giving me the opportunity to play a proactive role in the future of BCCM. I would make all efforts to further accelerate the excellent work being done by BCCM by leveraging my expertise in financial services, fintech and health-tech.’

Likewise Kyaw Kyaw commented, ‘I am very proud and delighted to become a Board Member of the British Chamber of Commerce. I will serve with my full capacity to achieve the Vision and Mission of British Chamber of Commerce.’

Welcomed back onto the board were Peter Beynon, Eddy Herbert and Mike Phone Myint.

During the meeting Peter Beynon was nominated to continue in his role of Chairman of the Board for another two years. Following the meeting Peter commented, ‘I am delighted to be nominated to the Chairman role for another two years. The time ahead will be challenging for the business community in Myanmar and it will be important for the BCCM to be directing attention to promoting the cause for the private sector and helping develop new business initiatives. The BCCM Board and the executive team will work closely with members to ensure that the Chamber provides relevant and timely assistance to promulgate their business interests locally, regionally and with the UK and internationally. These are challenging but exciting times to be involved with the BCCM”.

Other board positions agreed were Srikanth Srinivasamadhavan who will remain as Vice Chair, Richard Emerson who will remain as Secretary and Mike Phone Myint who was re-elected as Treasurer after being re-elected to the board.
